It's been a mixed week. Either I caught a cold or a severe case of ennui. I made it to work Friday night, but not Saturday morning.
Instead, we went to the Getty Saturday afternoon and wandered the exhibits with members of our havurah. The very cool exhibit was the Book of Hours of John, Duke of Berry. basically, his incredibly richly illuminated personal prayerbook from the 14th century has been temporarily slit apart and the bifolios are on display. It was incredibly intricate work done by three brothers. The museum provides magnifying glasses and I was amazed at the details; I was able to make out the texture on the hairy legs of a 1 inch demon in the corner of a miniature.
Then we went to a concert by the Andy Statman Trio. Think Klezmer meets John Coltrane with a nice side-trip into bluegrass. All in all, a fun day.
Today was a teacher in-service that I held for my folks and a few other schools. The Santa Ana winds are blowing, so it is hot and dry and the ocean is the color of clear olivine. Tomorrow is a day off and some writing may actually take place - wish me luck!
