I have that light feeling of having just finished a marvelous book and want to share it! I just finished reading Sharyn McCrumb's "Ghost Riders" and can recommend it highly. She interweaves a ghost story with a number of different points of view on the Civil War in the Appalachians of North Carolina. She does a really nice job of showing how the War affected people and why the wounds STILL show through to this day. For them, it wasn't the War Between the States, or even the War of Secession; it was the War of the Neighbors and the plain suffering piled up on all sides. The modern events help to illuminate the war-time drama and the characters are lively, well-drawn and historically accurate.
