JiM's Dreams

The past few nights, it has been so cold that we have had ice forming in the gutters. We never had the gas turned on here because it really only gets brisk for about 2 weeks in the winter and it didn't seem worth it. I have this thing about saving petro-chemicals and my dollars in relation to them, and our apartment is so poorly designed that there is no way to weather-strip the place or even prevent sundry breezes from blowing all the heat out anyway.

It has been so cold that our formerly-feral Florida cat has wormed his way under the down comforter every night. He prefers being suffocated to freezing and I can really sympathize. Every morning, I get up and leap into clothing while swearing and think, 'This must be what it was like before central heating was the norm and after most rooms stopped having fireplaces.' Pfeh.

Next year, I swear, I'm getting the gas turned on. I can't take the cat waking me out of a sound sleep by sleepily sinking his claws into my butt at 2 a.m. for very much longer.
