So I finally saw "March of the Penguins" at the cheap theater. Ok, it was fun and the cinematography was great and the penguins are lovely and interesting and the leopard seal looks a hell of a lot more like a predator than other pinnapeds... but I can't quite see what all the hype was about. Even recognizing that I am counter-populist in my tastes and patently refuse to read best seller books and rarely see the movies that everyone raves about.
And as for conservatives using penguins as symbols of family values -- they are living separated and sharing joint custody. Huge long commutes and a rather unsuitable environment for child-raising. We won't even mention the group-rearing environment, nor the abandonment in adolescence. Shocking, just shocking.
